My bible reading today was something that really resonated with me and spoke to me in a powerful way. I decided to share this with you so that maybe you can become encouraged by the words of Jesus about how we speak, just like I did.
Matthew 12:34-36
"You brood of Vipers. How can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of our heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the goods stored up in him and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
But I tell you, that men will have to give an account on the day of the judgement for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted and by your words you will be condemned".
Footnote: Jesus reminds us that what we say reveals what is in our hearts. What kind of words come for your mouth? That is an indication of what your heart is really like.
You can't solve your heart problem, however, just by cleaning up your speech. You must allow the Holy Spirit to fill you with new attitudes and motives; then your speech will be cleansed at it's source.
